When It's So Cold Outside

When it is so cold outside, (we're talking like -6 degrees Fahrenheit like it was last week) it usually means the blanket of clouds has been lifted from the sky, and the temps plunge, but the sun is out.  The snow gets fine and powdery and sparkly and blows around a bit from the trees.

Which gives us a wonderful winter equation:

extreme cold + Sun shining + falling/blowing snow powder = GLITTER

I love to look out my kitchen window at about 10:30 or so in the morning this time of year, and exlaim "It's GLITTERING outside!"
I looks so magical.

The Magical Glittering can't fully be captured on camera, but it sure is pretty!

Even when it isn't "glittering", it's fun to be out in the sun and snow.

I really like to get out in it, stomping around in my snow boots.  The kitties will usually follow me around, padding noiselessly close by me.

When it's so cold outside, your face tinges, and you want every possible part of your skin covered.  Your nose hairs freeze and you feel like you have something in your nose that should not be there.

When it's so cold outside, you wear animal skins on your head, and should remember that it really does get hot right where your standing, and that you should enjoy this cold while it's here for it will not last too long.

When it's so cold outside, like -6 degrees, your water might freeze and you might have to go scoop up snow from outside to melt on the stove so you can wash your dishes (like I had to last week).  You might feel like a pioneer in that case which is kinda cool.

But mostly when it's so cold outside we hang out inside by this guy:

and read books (we just finished The Little House in the Big Woods this afternoon) and do puzzles and play games and partake in other life events that happen at home.  Because when it's this cold outside I like to hunker down at home (especially with an itty bitty baby).
