Snow

The view out my window right now is this:

Yesterday it snowed most of the day.  The sun came out for a little bit in the afternoon, but then it snowed some more.  The snow was a welcomed sight, actually.  You see, in the Winter here, it is usu. either snowy and frozen and white, or it is really muddy and messy.  The fresh snow covers up all that mud.  And, let me tell you, it is so much easier to keep the floors clean when it is snowy and frozen.
As flakes were coming down, and the muddy ground was disappearing to soft, clean whiteness, I thought how nice it is that is comes and covers up all the gross mud.  It felt so clean.  I couldn't help but think of how the snow is like repentance, erasing all the sin.  A beautiful thing, indeed.

We didn't have school yesterday, and we were going to go into town to get some things for something that I have going on today, but when it started snowing we cancelled our trip.  That saved us 100+ miles of gas money, and lots of time, and forced us to just make do with what we had instead (a great lesson that I have learned from living out here).  It was nice to not have to go anywhere.  We just hung out, and did a history lesson, and played games.

Jiles is SO hard to keep inside these days.  I love that he loves to be outside so much, but right now he thinks that he can go out whenever he wants, without asking or telling anyone, and go wherever he wants.  That is a problem, especially considering that it is Winter and that he is only 3 years old.  All he wants to wear these days is shorts and t-shirts, which is okay with me when he is in the warm indoors, but when he wants to go out he thinks it's okay to simply don his mud boots, with or without socks, and his coat.

Oh, look.  He has a hat on.

At one point yesterday I caught him outside like this:

Um, brrrr.

Ezra has been obsessed with this motorcycle helmet the last few days.  He was even wearing it this morning as he was getting ready for school.  He was excited for the fresh snow yesterday, so that he could snowboard, even though the fence stopped him at the bottom of the tiny hill in the front yard.  Good thing he had that helmet on.  :)

One of my favorite things about Winter is a full moon when it is all white and snowy out.  This morning I looked out the window just in time to see the full moon sitting on top of the mountain in the western sky, just before it set.  It was GORGEOUS!

Another one of my favorite things about Winter is the day after a snow day when the sun is shining and the sky is so blue, blue, blue against the white snow.

Like today; it is quite gorgeous out today.

When it's snowy and sunny outside, inside the house gets so bright and cheery.   And that, for sure, is one of my favorite things about the snow.

Snowy days...

Bless you!
Doing chores...

...with my mud boots, my dish gloves, and a sweet (yet slow) ride.

What's a snowy day outside without a warm fire inside.  This is one of Spencer's chores.

Rockin' out on the porch enjoying the view, we see that Ezra has a bit of the shorts-and-t-shirts-during-the-winter fever, too.  Zoe had just woken up from her nap in these pictures, and was a bit teary.

It is supposed to be 57 degrees on Saturday.  Holy cow!  Spring is SO just around the corner.  I guess we really should enjoy this snow while it lasts.

I so enjoyed this post, Carrie..it reminded me of our winters in Virginia. I miss those dearly. We live in South Texas now and we never see snow. :-( Your pictures are so beautiful...oh my goodness...they tell such a lovely story. You seem to live a very blessed life. What a wonderful family.

many blessings,
jennifer
