halloween-ish porch:
We made bats out of black construction paper and tape them with black thread to the porch ceiling. I was quite fond of them and loved seeing them fly in the breeze. Ezra and Kate drew a haunted scene on the chalk board that we set on the old rickety table.

kate is old enough to carve this year. she and spencer won prizes for their pumpkins.

camp half-blood:
that night we did something completely different. we gathered with 5 other friend-families and had a "camp half-blood" (from percy jackson) themed evening. my friend janae and her sons made all of the shirts,
and they brought stuff to make necklaces and spears and teeny tiny bows and arrows. we all brought yummy soups and bread and treats to share.
my friend tia brought activities for the little ones, even though the big ones wanted to participate, too.
most of these older kids have read the percy jackson series and were way into it.

shawn taught them a game called wizards, giants, and elves. i don't think that it had anything to do with percy jackson, but they still loved it. it was too cold and wet outside to play capture the flag.

they were way into their play.
