my first time spending money for this WHOLE year wasn't until the very end of january. i really didn't even go to town. weston was proud of me and the bank statement was very short.
but then I went.
and then I went again,
and made up for January's lack of expenditures.
and yes, it was almost completely on thrift stores (or "thrip stores" according to ezra). what wasn't thrift-found was food.
ya wanna see some of the shtuff?
1. tan and blue globe $10
2. red lazy susan/spinner. $12. awesome at dinner time. an 180 degree spin gets something from me to weston without it passing through the kids (not that that's a big deal, it's just faster). most of the time it holds our fruit on the counter.
3. abc thing. $3. magnetic on one side, chalkboard on the other. the chalkboard can slide all the way out, and behind it all the magnetic letters/chalk are/is stored.
4. red chandelier. $32. it's going in our entry way. i like it.
5. old sturdy blanket. $30? i can't remember. every time i've gone to this one antique/randomness store for the last year or so i've seen this and it has called to me, but i never wanted to pay that price. anyway, i finally paid that price. i love the colored yarn, and the kids love it to snug up with. i'm thinking that it is going to be our picnic blanket when those days roll around again.
6. drop leaf table. $57. both sides go down, so it gets as skinny as the bank of drawers, which is just what i was looking for for the craft/guest room. it can fold up and get out of the way for the hide-a-bed. there are drawers on both sides of it, which is spiffy. the knobs aren't necessarily my flavor, but they'll do.
7. stop sign/slow sign. $can't remember, but not very much, maybe $6? it has been fun using it in primary (i'm the chorister). i want to put it on the wall leaving the mud room and entering into the rest of the house with a "take your shoes off!" or "no mud beyond this point" or something like that. maybe that will help keep the rest of my house cleaner.
oh, and some movies down there on the bottom. my fair lady (which i forgot how much i like the music and don't like the story), pollyanna (we were all disappointed...it is so not like the book, but we still enjoyed it), the fox and the hound, a carebear movie, and 2 andy griffith dvd's (love those).
i also got these three beauties for $4 a piece,
and this bike for $15...
modeled with miss kate in her jammies and apron (both of which are made by grandma), snowboots, and a half eaten nectarine (or is that a peach) in hand. so kate. she loves this bike yet she can't quite ride it. i give her and the little boys rides on it. round and round on the porch. the driveway is way too muddy/snowy/icy.
and while riding, the pedals turn and squeak, "marshamarshamarsha," and i feel a bit like the jan brady of old.
for she had one a bit like it.
so, you see, i spent my fair share lately.
but gosh golly, i sure like thrifting.

What is/are the name(s) of the shop(s) where you're doing all this fabulous thrifting? I rarely have any luck.
We have got to get together and just thrift shop! it would be a party cause i just LOVE it to. maybe we will have to wait until next month. . .
That bike is awesome!
Glad you got to go thrifting, it's so exhilarating when you get good deals!

FUn stuff! I love thrifting too...yeah you already know that. Most people don't think of going thrifting while on vacation in Hawaii, that's why you are so cool, and why I know you really do love it!
PS. I lent out the hawaiian dress we got matching ones of to Lulu, and she wore it to a luau and got tons of compliments! I haven't worn it yet, but have you worn yours?
