Memorial Day Program

The school put on a sweet little Memorial Day program on Friday, the last day of school, at the community cemetery and church. It was really well done. Peaceful, reverent, tasteful, religious.

I just want to say that in a time where people are wanting to change our nation's history, as far as what is being taught in our public schools, in ways such as diluting the teaching of religious freedoms, I am SO glad that my children are privileged enough to attend a public school where the educators strongly believe that our children should be taught the truth; and they believe that God should NOT be left out.

The children raised American flags, and a P.O.W./M.I.A. flag outside, and we all joined in saying the Pledge of Allegiance. Then we all went inside the community church where the children sang many patriotic tunes, including God Bless America, and America the Beautiful.

After the children were finished singing inside the church, we all went back outside into the cemetery. The children were each given a name of a veteran who had been buried there, and a cross with an American flag attached to it. They quietly found their veteran's headstone and placed the cross and flag next to it. It was really neat. The music teacher's husband was one of them, as was the head teacher's father, and also the teacher assistant's husband. It was so good for the students to be a part of that. It was a real bonding experience for everyone.
