- Kate and Ezra chased each other, laughing, right in front of the podium as the Bishop was talking about some serious stuff.
- Kate yanked the blanket off of the baby, put his bib on his head, and kissed his head violently, making him cry.
- Spencer yanked the blanket from Kate and slapped her with it.
- Spencer took his shoes off, sprawled himself across 3 chairs and asked rather loudly for me to massage his bare feet.
- Ezra arched his back fighting me on my lap
- Ezra saw Grandpa and let everyone else know that he saw him.
- I sweated profusely, was completely red in the face, and fought back tears.
- I wanted to climb into a hole.
Well, when Weston came to sit with us he took Jiles out of the car seat because he was smiling up at him and he couldn't resist, I guess. Ezra had to go to the bathroom right away so Weston told Spencer to take him (why?) and they both ran out, and then Ezra ran back in 20 seconds later. Weston handed the baby over to me and took Ezra out. Spencer came back in. Kate was trying to hold Jiles way too rough. She got mad and wandered a little too far towards the front, sat on the ground with her legs spread wide open (uh, no tights on today) and Jiles started to cry. Did I mention we were on the front row? Yeah, and pretty much right under the podium and on display for everyone? I got up, took Kate's hand, and walked out, leaving Spencer by himself (and tons of crayons and coloring books). I walked all the way down that long aisle to the back of the chapel, feeling everyone's eyes and "what-bad-parents-and-wild-kids"/"I-really-hope-that-they-don't-have-any-more-kids" judgements on me.
We passed Weston and Tiny E in the hallway. I was headed straight for the car. The waterworks were coming. I told Kate to climb in and strap herself in, climbed in the driver's seat and cranked the car and air conditioner on. I cried for a bit as I nursed Jiles.
I composed myself, or so I thought, and headed back inside in time for the end of the meeting. I was doing music time in primary which was starting right then. One of my good friends passed me in the hall and asked how I was doing (she and her family had been sitting right next to us in the chapel and I knew she saw everything). I waved my hand "so-so". I felt the tears coming again and knew that if I said one word I would burst into tears. I kept walking. I turned the corner, and saw another good friend, who is the other primary counselor. She asked how I was and that was it. I lost it. I couldn't talk and we both just walked outside. After a little venting and a hug, I took a deep breath and went back in to do singing time (my first time ever doing it...i can't hardly carry a tune...). I had to fake "happy" at first, but then I really did feel better. It was really fun and went real good.
Later, Weston told me what went down after Kate, Jiles, and I left. When Weston went back in with Ezra, Spencer was wandering around the chapel barefoot. And then a little later Weston's cell phone went off really loud.
Can I just say....
HOLY COW! What's the deal? COULD IT HAVE BEEN ANY WORSE?
Actually, I shouldn't say that. Cuz, I guess it could.
Weston told me yesterday evening that they asked him to lead the music in sacrament meeting next week. My reaction: "Great." I'm soloing it. No front row for us. I 'spose we'll have to get there early so that we can sit in the very, very back.

first of all I want to say "YOU ARE A GOOD MOM!"
I am sorry you had a hard time at church. I know it is embarrassing, especially when you are on the front row and feel like you are on display.
I am sure that everyone who has kids has experienced times like this at least once.
I remember times when I used to wonder "why bother?" or "what is the Point" but the important thing is taking the sacrament and setting the example for your kids. They may not act like they are paying attention, but they will remember your diligence in going to church, and serving in your calling and making it a priority.
It used to be a lot harder for us too, when Cameron served as Elders Quorum Pres. for four years. Our kids were 3, 2, and 2 years old when he was put in and 7, 6, 6, and 3 when he was released. I felt like he was always at meetings, or helping people. I tried to support him, but sometimes it was hard. And I struggled with getting the kids ready by myself.
I promise it will get better, and I promise that you will be blessed for your efforts and dedication and service.
Just talk to Mom about sundays when the boys were little and Dad was the bishop...Cameron remembers her crying ALOT!
Sorry it was me that called Weston's cell during Sacrament meeting.
Ugh! I'm sorry.
Maybe we'll stick with three...
;)
Oh Carrie! I am so sorry my love! I would have cried too. If it makes you feel better, it HAS happend to me. Seriously, with Daron working on Saturday nights and then sleeping on Sunday, and working Sunday night, Sundays are not always my favorite day wither. TOTALLY BEEN THERE, actually, I AM THERE!!
One Sunday I was desperately trying to get to church with the kids dressed in SOMETHING, and no chicken poop on their shoes (which has happened before, and when I took his shoes off to keep the poop smell in the car his feet were painted with red toe nail polish which looked like blood.)We ended up sitting in the hall with me feeling sorry for myself while the kids ran amok around the church and Brigham pooped in the Sunday school room and took his diaper off. One mom said to me-"Man I always thought you were one of those moms who always had it together, until I saw you today." So I vowed to never judge another family, and to always, ALWAYS look for the SINGLE mother who doesn't have a husband or the one whose husband doesn't WANT to come to church (because at least mine wants too) and I will be there for her as much as I can!!So far that has been a great lesson to me.
I am so sorry! Oh, I wish I knew it was one of those bad days for you, and I would have called. Seriously.
Love you, beautiful, AWESOME mother of my nieces and nephews,
Jamee

Carrie I am so sorry. I was totally crying when I read your post...can you tell I am an emotional prego lady? I had a similar type experience on the airplane the other day. You will have to read my blog. I will prob write it today. Love you! I hope when I have 4 kids I will be as patient and as good a mom as you are.
Carrie !!! I am SO WITH YOU!!! I have to be honest and tell you that I laughed while reading this. I laughed because I swear you are reading my journal or something. I have had almost exactly the same experiances! I never thought to just go out in the car and cry it out ... wish I was there to hug you ... or at least go out and cry with you!
I really wonder why I earth I even go to church right now. Neil is in the bishopric and so I do the morning thing alone and then the sacrament meeting alone ... seriously it is the LONGEST hour of my entire week. It is so hard. Right now it seems especially hard because Andee is mobile and doesn't want to be cooped into a pew but also doesn't communicate and so there is no talking it out. By Sunday school I am so pooped that I hand Neil the baby and wish him luck! He walks around to visit primary and other places and Andee likes that much better than being pinned again in another row.
This Sunday I seriously walked out no less than 6 times! I don't know what to do. We are all in this together!!!
That's rather funny. lol
